Medium/Heavy Duty Diesel Emissions & Safety Inspections
Emissions and safety inspections for medium/heavy duty diesel commercial vehicles and buses must be completed at an authorized inspection facility by licensed technicians under an agreement with the Province of Ontario.
TECHNICA FLEET SERVICES LIMITED is approved and fully equipped to carry out DriveON inspections for medium/heavy-duty diesel commercial vehicles and buses.
Vehicles Requiring Emissions Testing
Since April 2019, most light-duty vehicles under 4,500 kg are exempt. However, commercial diesel vehicles exceeding 4,500 kg, including buses, pick-up trucks, and large trucks, require annual inspections. Ensure any used commercial vehicle complies with Ontario emissions regulations.
How the Emissions Test Works
Visual Inspection: Check key components such as exhaust system (integrity, leaks, etc…) and fuel cap (no fuel leaks).
Opacity Test: Measures exhaust smoke levels vehicles before: 1990: ≤ 40%, 1991–2007: ≤ 30%, 2008+: ≤ 20%.
Pass: Vehicle approved for continued operation.
Fail: Repairs required, follow-up test necessary.
